1. Can vinyl flooring be installed directly over my existing ceramic tiles or parquet?
Yes, in many cases we can install click-lock vinyl flooring directly over your existing floor using an overlay method. However, this is only possible if your current tiles or parquet are firmly bonded, free of hollow sound spots, and completely flat. If your existing floor is uneven, cracked, or popping up, we will need to hack it away or apply a layer of self-leveling cement first to prevent the new vinyl from warping or unlocking.
2. What is the difference between Click-Lock and Glue-Down vinyl installation?
Click-Lock Vinyl is thicker (usually 4mm to 6mm) and features interlocking tongue-and-groove edges. It floats freely over an underlay pad without any glue, making it ideal for residential HDB flats, condos, and rental units. Glue-Down Vinyl is thinner (2mm to 3mm) and glued directly onto a perfectly flat concrete subfloor using strong adhesive. It is highly secure and best suited for large commercial spaces, offices, and retail stores with heavy foot traffic or rolling furniture.
3. Why is skirting installation necessary along with the flooring?
Vinyl naturally expands and contracts slightly with temperature changes in Singapore’s tropical climate (especially when switching between air-conditioning and natural room temperatures). Because of this, we must leave a small expansion gap between the vinyl planks and your walls. Skirting boards are installed directly on top of these gaps to neatly hide them, provide a premium finished look, and protect your lower walls from water stains and scuffs when you mop.
4. How long does it take to install vinyl flooring in a standard HDB flat?
Our professional teams work quickly and efficiently. For a standard 3-room to 5-room HDB flat (living room and bedrooms), the installation usually takes just 1 to 2 days. If your project requires extensive subfloor prep like removing old carpets or pouring self-leveling concrete, it may add an extra day to the timeline.
5. Is vinyl flooring truly 100% waterproof? Can it be installed in bathrooms?
Luxury vinyl planks are 100% waterproof and easily handle kitchen spills, wet mopping, and pet accidents without swelling or rotting. However, while the material itself is waterproof, we do not recommend installing it inside wet bathroom shower areas. Constant standing water can eventually seep through the micro-seams between the planks and weaken the subfloor structure underneath. For Commercial Spaces (Offices, Retail, Gyms): Due to high foot traffic and outdoor grit being tracked in daily, we recommend a maintenance schedule of every 3 to 6 months to protect your corporate investment.
